Public-market investors

ABOUT THE PRIVATE LEDGER
When The Private Ledger began on April 28, 2026, the aim was to cover a niche that few publications cover well: the private market.
Private companies are harder to research. Information is often limited, important details are hidden, and the businesses can be clouded in mystery. Proper research is painstaking and lengthy. That is exactly why this work matters.
For the ByteDance breakdown, The Private Ledger used more than 50 sources, spoke off the record with a Chinese lawyer to better understand the work culture, and spent days working through obscure Chinese websites. That level of effort is the standard: raw analytical depth over marketing fluff.
WHY LOOK AT THE PRIVATE MARKET?
When a company is big enough and the time is right, it may decide to go public. The Private Ledger is built for investors who want to understand that story earlier.
Understand private competitors before judging a public company. To assess PayPal, for example, it helps to understand Stripe.
Research businesses while they are still private, before the public-market decision arrives.
Follow the macro trends, timing, and red flags around companies preparing to go public.
Look ahead to the companies quietly dominating their niches today and potentially the public markets tomorrow.
Get a clearer picture of private companies and the markets in which they operate.
My goal is to track companies today that can become public-market giants tomorrow. As more companies remain private for longer, independent coverage of the private market matters more than ever.
I have already written on SpaceX, Anthropic, Anduril, and more. The deep dives will continue weekly.
