General Matter
A nuclear-fuel company pursuing domestic uranium-enrichment capacity for LEU and HALEU.
The Company
General Matter is working to build U.S. uranium-enrichment capacity, with a focus on low-enriched uranium and HALEU for advanced reactors. It is part of a broader effort to rebuild domestic nuclear-fuel supply chains that have long depended on foreign enrichment capacity.
The company raised a $50 million Founders Fund-led Series A in April 2025; its valuation was not disclosed. In January 2026, General Matter announced a $900 million contract to produce and supply HALEU, a material commercial milestone but not equity financing.
Why It Matters
Fuel availability is a binding constraint on the next wave of advanced nuclear projects. General Matter is therefore exposed both to a large strategic opportunity and to the regulatory and execution hurdles inherent in an enrichment business.
