Modal
Modal offers cloud infrastructure for AI workloads, from training and inference to agent sandboxes and batch jobs.
The Company
Modal is a cloud platform designed around AI workloads rather than traditional web applications. Developers use it for inference, training, batch processing, reinforcement learning, and isolated execution environments for agents.
In May 2026, Modal announced a $355 million Series C at a $4.65 billion post-money valuation. It said annualized revenue had surpassed $300 million after growing fivefold since September.
Why It Matters
Modal is a signal of where value may accrue in AI infrastructure: not only in chips and model providers, but in the software layer that makes demanding workloads usable by developers.
